Did you hear? Today is the day! We now know that the Ice Castles in Stillwater, Minnesota are officially open.
So exciting, we’ve waited for this for awhile, and they’re now finished!
It helps that the weather cooperated and gave us equally enough days of subzero temps (to keep things nice and frozen) here – while also providing temps around 20 degrees fahrenheit….(around the ideal temp for building the structures as we were told recently by an expert with the organization).
So this is it, the Stillwater Ice Castles are opening today in Minnesota. Are you ready to go?
Tickets are on sale now here. You can find all of the information on the dates the castles are opening, as well as pricing and general information. Keep in mind that when you buy a ticket (or group of them), you’re buying a time slot of when you should arrive.
The example they give is if you buy one (or some) for from 7 – 7:30, you need to be there at 7 and may need to wait until 7:30 to get in. Don’t arrive early (you’ll be waiting in line) and don’t get there late (you might lose your spot!)
We just want to make sure you get in to see this spectacular event.
By the way, did you know that the Ice Castles crew has grown “roughly 10,000 icicles every day” to then attach to the structure for building? So cool! Is there any job title more fun than an Icicle Harvester? We don’t think so.
If you haven’t visited the castles or driven by them yet, you might not know how they look. Lots of the castle is blue… like the deep ocean blue! We’re told it’s because water absorbs every color of the spectrum, except blue.
They’ll be other colors though as well via lots of exciting different colored lighting. We’ve seen photos of them looking purple, green and more. We think it’s a little like looking at the Northern Lights… on ice!
Make sure to make this a family event too, kids are going to love it. There are usually slides and tunnels within the castles for them to explore and play on.
Finally, as if that all weren’t fun enough, the property neighboring the castles (The Water Street Inn) is hosting a tea with Princesses that you can sign up for. Call The Water Street Inn at 651-439-6000 for reservations, your little one will get to have tea with the princesses and then explore the Ice Castles!
