Color Me Impressed

When you’re remodeling your kitchen, you have seemingly endless factors to consider. And understandably so! Whether your kitchen is getting gutted and your old cabinets and countertops are getting replaced, or you’re wanting a kitchen cabinet refacing project completed, considering the color of your cabinets, countertops, and (especially) backsplash and walls is integral to making your kitchen your kitchen. Some of us may already have a color (or colors) in mind and need no further fuss over the matter. However, if you’re like most homeowners who are considering kitchen makeovers, you’re finding yourself facing some color conflict; “Which color goes best with the marble countertops we’d like?” or “should my backsplash be an accent piece, or should it match my walls?” are just a few of the questions we ask ourselves when we’re facing a major change in our kitchen. If you have these and similar concerns, then you’ve found the right kitchen remodeling contractors to offer guidance through the decision-making process! Since starting St. Croix Cabinet Solutions, we’ve helped hundreds of homeowners choose the perfect color(s) for their kitchen makeovers and cabinet refinishing projects. We’d like to extend these tips and observations with our future clients. Take a peek below to learn more about how certain colors impact your kitchen.

Some Like it Hot, Some Like it Cold

When selecting colors for your kitchen, it’s always a good idea to consider how you want the room to “feel.” And we don’t mean temperature-wise; colors evoke certain emotions or feelings, including registering in our brains as “warm” and “cool” colors. For many of us, we (maybe even unknowingly) respond differently to certain colors; yellow often makes some people anxious or nervous, while deep blues often evoke calmness and serenity. But for some, the opposite can be true. And, since you’re going to see these colors each day, we highly suggest spending quite a bit of time with a few color palettes to get a better idea of which colors you feel drawn towards most strongly.  But before we get too far into colors and moods, here are a few simple ideas to keep in mind:

‘Do I Truly Like These Colors?’

We know this may sound like a no-brainer, but it’s one of the simplest (and sometimes most overlooked) questions each homeowner should ask her- or himself when the time comes for cabinet refinishings and/or kitchen makeovers. It sounds silly to us because, well, why would anyone choose a color they don’t like? We’re not suggesting that we do; we just know that when emotions are heightened and the sometimes overwhelming weight of kitchen makeovers sinks in, simple decisions such as finally choosing a color can seem like a mundane and “easy” decision. All too often, this ends with homeowners kicking themselves for not spending more time choosing the color(s) that they most prefer. If you’re remodeling with a partner or spouse, take the time to talk to them about how each color reflects in the room, as well as how the color — along with with your newly remodeled kitchen — makes the room feel to them. When you’re both on the same page with color selection, finding additional items to really make your kitchen pop gets even easier.

‘Will I Want These Colors in Both the Warm And Cool Months?’

We sometimes have little say in which cities and towns we live, but no matter where we find ourselves, our homes are our personal refuge from the elements. For most of us, Northern Wisconsin doesn’t give us much in the way of warm months, but, boy, do we make them count! When we come in from a hot day off Lake St. Croix, it sure is nice to return to a cool home with equally cool colors. However, Wisconsin’s cool (and, by cool, we mean bitterly cold) months make having lush blues, rich greens, and deep, earthy tones an inviting sight when coming in from January’s blistering winds. If you’re like some of our clients who’ve chosen to add warm colors and tones to their kitchen makeovers, you’re among the many; we’re proud to offer numerous options for countertops and kitchen cabinet refacings, including styles, designs, cuts and, of course, colors, giving you near-countless options for picking the colors you choose feel like home.

‘Which Colors Offer the Most Versatility?’

This question might sound a little broad — and that’s because is it! There’s no right or wrong way to pair your new or newly refaced cabinets with colors that are pleasing to your and your partner’s eyes. Although we encourage originality, choosing tried and true color combinations that give you some wriggle room for decorating is always a good idea. Since we’re fans of warmer colors, we’d likely choose to pair our deeply rich earth-toned cabinets with more lightly colored countertops, such as eggshell or a light, creamy sand tone. Color schemes such as these leave you with numerous options for adding decorative items and adding accent colors to your walls, such as a backsplash. Whatever your color preferences, you’ll find your perfect cabinets and countertops with St. Croix Cabinet Solutions.
